Simply sticking some floss between your teeth for less than a second and then removing it is not an effective way to clean between your molars. Buy the right floss
There are numerous brands of floss at the store, but most floss falls into two categories. There is nylon, or multifilament, floss and single-filament floss. Nylon floss is more likely to shred apart between your teeth. Although single filament floss tends to be more expensive, it is practically shred-resistant. You will not have to worry about it falling apart, so you will be able to get to all of your teeth without hassle.
Break off 18 inches of floss
Your family dentist will likely recommend for you to floss at least once every day. However, you may want to consider flossing twice daily if you are particularly prone to oral health problems. Every time you floss, you should break off roughly 18 inches and wind it around your middle finger. You can wind the rest of the floss around the same finger on the other hand. This other finger will take up more of the floss as it gradually becomes dirty.
Hold the floss firmly
While the floss should be wrapped around your middle fingers, you want to hold it tightly with your forefingers and thumbs. You should be left with about an inch of floss between your fingers now. You can then gently glide the floss between your teeth using your index fingers.
Use a gentle rubbing motion
You do not want to jam the floss between your teeth. You may hit the gums and cause them to bleed. As soon as the floss reaches the gum line, you want to curve it against one tooth. From here, you need to gently rub the side of the tooth while gradually moving the floss away from the gums. You should repeat this process for every single one of your teeth.
Floss the back side of your last teeth
You do not want to ignore the hard-to-reach teeth in your mouth. You need to get behind these teeth to floss the back. Bacteria can still build up in this area, and the backside of these teeth can decay. Once you are finished, you can throw the piece of floss away. There is no use keeping it because used floss will not be as effective at cleaning teeth.
